Job summary

Low Country Cancer Care is seeking a patient financial navigator to act as the primary advocate for insurance verification and payment options in an oncology practice. You will review coverage, establish financial responsibility estimates, and coordinate prior authorizations to ensure access to cancer treatment with compassionate support.

You will partner with clinical teams and external assistance programs to minimize barriers to care, verify benefits, and guide patients through assistance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s Degree or higher preferred.
• At least two years in healthcare, preferably in healthcare financial counseling or medical billing.
• Experience verifying pre-certification and prior authorization with medical insurance.
• Experience with patient assistance programs and financial aid resources preferred.
• Prior cash handling and monetary collection experience.
• Ability to calculate and collect patient responsibility and insurance co-pays/coinsurance.
• Knowledge of ICD9, ICD10, CPT codes.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance, pre-certification, and prior authorization processes with internal and external teams.
• Explain insurance benefits and patient financial responsibility to patients.
• Coordinate with clinical teams and external organizations to remove financial barriers to care.
• Keep EMR benefits up to date and review service coverage for accuracy.
• Provide compassionate financial counseling and assist with payment plans and applications.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant communication with patients and staff.
