Job summary

Low Country Cancer Care is seeking a Patient Financial Counselor to advocate for patients’ financial navigation in an oncology practice. You will review insurance coverage, estimate patient financial responsibility, coordinate prior authorizations, and assist with financial aid applications while collaborating with clinical teams to reduce barriers to care.

The role requires strong knowledge of insurance processes, excellent communication, and the ability to explain complex medical costs clearly

Qualifications

• Minimum two years in healthcare, preferably financial counseling or patient access.
• Experience verifying pre-certification and prior authorization with medical insurance.
• Familiar with patient assistance programs and grant services.
• Ability to handle cash and collect patient payments.
• Ability to calculate patient responsibility and insurance co-pays.
• Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT coding.
• Excellent communication skills with diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance coverage and determine patient financial responsibility.
• Coordinate pre-certification, prior authorization, and appeals as needed.
• Explain treatment costs and financing options to patients.
• Maintain up-to-date insurance benefits in EMR and billing systems.
• Collaborate with clinical teams and external aid programs to secure funding.
• Monitor aging balances and arrange payment plans with patients.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and compassionate patient communication.
