Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare seeks a certified Medical Assistant to help manage patient flow, obtain vitals, and document care, supporting the mission and quality service goals.

The role involves greeting patients, preparing exam rooms, assisting during exams, performing phlebotomy, and ensuring accurate charting in the EMR. AHA BLS CPR is required, with at least 2 years of clinical office experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be certified Medical Assistant. If not certified at hire, must complete MA training or have 2 years MA experience and obtain certification within 18 months.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Proficiency in basic clinical skills: phlebotomy, BP, EKG, injections.
• Knowledge of infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.
• Minimum of 2 years’ prior clinical support in a medical office preferred.
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients to exam room promptly.
• Reviews chart to ensure all required reports are available prior to exam/treatment and obtains reports as needed.
• Obtains and documents patient chief complaint and vitals.
• Assists providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Draws blood and prepares specimens for in-house labs; follows insurance verification.
• Documents all activities in the medical record and communicates with patients per provider instructions.
• Maintains infection control and confidentiality; adheres to safety guidelines.
• Assists with scheduling future appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic tests.
