Job summary

The Medical Assistant at Beth Israel Lahey Health provides high quality, direct patient care in a team-based model, supporting efficient administrative and clinical operations. You will obtain vital signs, assist during visits, and document care in the EHR to ensure proper billing and care continuity.

Eligible candidates have at least a High School diploma, 6 months of clinical training, and may hold preferred credentials such as EMT-B, phlebotomy certification, or completion of the BILH

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months clinical classroom training.
• Preferred: Graduate of BILH Primary Care Clinical Assistant Training program.
• Preferred: EMT Basic License, Phlebotomy Certificate, or other healthcare training.

Responsibilities

• Through relationship development and care team coordination, contributes to the BIDHC patient, practice, and organizational goals.
• Assists patient over the course of their visit: facilitates timely flow and informs patient and provider of any delay.
• Communicates clearly with patient and team: provides hand-off to provider entering the exam room.
• Performs medical assisting duties under proper supervision: vital signs, EKGs, point of care testing, phlebotomy, immunizations.
• Leads conversations to meet quality and population health goals through outreach and health coaching.
• Monitors, orders, and maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring expiry dates are respected.
• Works within the EHR to queue prescriptions and document tasks for proper billing.
• Schedules related diagnostic and lab tests and handles referrals/pre-authorizations.
• Identifies OSHA compliance issues and ensures PHI is used appropriately.

Education

BILH Primary Care Clinical Assistant Training program
