Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Immediate Care Technician for the Crystal Lake clinic. This part-time role at 24 hours per week consists of two 12-hour shifts from 7:45am to 8:15pm, with weekend and holiday coverage.

Floating to other clinics may be required, and candidates must be a CMA or EMT to join our patient care team. The technician will support physicians and APPs by facilitating patient flow, performing routine care tasks, and handling related administrative duties, while upholding

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Candidate must have written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for writing one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
• Within first six months of employment, will complete one of the following certifications after up to two test attempts: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certification OR Illinois EMT License.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.
• Completion of pre-employment competency exam.
• Strong computer skills.
• Preferred: Experience with electronic medical record; College degree or interest in health care field; One to two years of ambulatory care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assures efficient patient flow through the site: escorts patient to exam room, identifies patient with 2 identifiers and prepares patient for examination.
• Obtains accurate vital signs, per organization standards.
• Documents reason for visit and updates allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information.
• Informs MD/APP of significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms.
• Prepares exam rooms and supplies for visits; maintains clean, safe patient care areas.
• Assists with referrals, transfers and discharge processes.
• Assists MD/APP with procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, wound care, and specimen collection as directed.
• Call-in or electronically send prescriptions as directed by MD/APP.
• Interacts professionally with patients and team; attends staff meetings; supports the patient care team.
