Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a Social Services Assistant to provide general social services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities, addressing social and emotional needs that affect health. You will work with a dedicated team to strengthen wellness, resilience, and community well‑being.

Duties include assisting with resident activities, monitoring behavior, documenting observations, supporting daily living activities, and maintaining a safe residential environment.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in social services, case management, patient support, interviewing clients, maintaining records, or coordinating community resources.
• Education: four-year bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester hours related to the position or a major in social behavior, human behavior, or health care.
• Combination of education and experience that meets 100% of the requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist higher-level staff with implementing resident schedules and structured activities.
• Monitor resident behavior, conduct bed checks, and document observations.
• Escort and supervise residents during meals and activities; ensure resident accountability.
• Assist residents with daily living activities and treatment assignments under supervision.
• Support facility operations by aiding security procedures, monitoring equipment, and safety checks.
• Report resident status and incidents to supervisory or clinical staff.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework in social behavior/health care
