Job summary

City of Minneapolis seeks a Community Safety Ambassador to create a safe, welcoming corridor by engaging residents, businesses and visitors. You will walk cultural corridors, assess situations for intervention, provide directions and referrals, and connect those in need to services while practicing de-escalation and first aid.

This temporary 2026 role becomes permanent in 2027; CPR/First Aid and Narcan training are emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of related community-facing experience.
• CPR/First Aid certification and Narcan training required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible foot patrols to deter activity and engage with residents, businesses and visitors.
• Document daily activities and incidents; coordinate with supervisors, law enforcement and service providers.
• Offer a welcoming, helpful presence with directions, event information and referrals.
• Respond to public intoxication, loitering and aggression; provide education and referrals to outreach services.
• Interact with the Safety Communications Center; assess hazards and coordinate with responders.
• Distribute brochures and hotline information; serve as point of contact for inquiries.
• Conduct business check-ins; collaborate with safety partners and city contractors.
• Provide walking escorts within district boundaries upon request.
• Administer first aid, CPR and Narcan as needed until help arrives.
• Complete ongoing training in de-escalation, CPR/First Aid, customer service and cultural sensitivity.
