Job summary

The City of Detroit seeks a Recreation Program Coordinator to supervise and implement recreation activities at centers and during special phases. You will guide staff, promote programs, and ensure safety and quality of events for diverse groups.

Responsibilities include leading play activities, coordinating indoor/outdoor programs, and conducting instruction in sports and crafts, with emphasis on teamwork and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or sports and athletics.
• One year of professional recreation experience.
• Complete first aid and CPR training to attain permanent status.

Responsibilities

• Assists in promoting recreation center programs and activities.
• Assists in identifying sponsorship opportunities within the community.
• In the supervisor's absence, represents the department and assures safety at the center.
• Directs and monitors Playleaders, volunteers, seasonal staff, and providers.
• Completes work activity reports.
• Conducts formal exercise classes and directs free play; officiates games.
• Organizes and directs activities at outdoor play centers.
• Assists in directing indoor/outdoor activities and programs.
• Supervises groups at summer playgrounds in preparation for activities.
• Administers first aid.
