Job summary

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. seeks a dedicated coordinator to support HELP New Mexico CSBG initiatives, empowering low-income individuals and seniors through resource navigation and advocacy.

The role also includes coordinating volunteers for Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions, promoting intergenerational engagement and community well‑being. The position involves travel to county sites, with office-based work and strong emphasis on outreach, documentation, and outcomes reporting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in social services or case management preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience working with seniors and low-income individuals is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Empower low-income individuals, families, and seniors by connecting them with essential community resources and supportive services.
  • Combine direct client advocacy with program coordination under CSBG and intergenerational programs like Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions.
  • Provide personalized support to help clients overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, while recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers who offer companionship and mentorship.
  • Foster a supportive environment that strengthens individuals and promotes intergenerational connections through education, outreach, and collaborative partnerships.

HELP New Mexico’s Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) is designed to assist limited-income individuals on their journeys to achieve their educational and employment goals. This happens through an individualized array of supportive services and emergency assistance, so families will have their needs met while education and/or job training is ongoing.

This is an office based position with travel to San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe counties.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
  • You will play a vital role in empowering low-income individuals, families, and seniors by connecting them with essential community resources and supportive services.
  • You will combine direct client advocacy with program coordination responsibilities under initiatives such as the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and intergenerational volunteer programs like Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions.
  • You will provide personalized support to help clients overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, while also recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers who offer companionship and mentorship to vulnerable populations.

Minimum Qualifications And Competencies
Education /Background:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Human Services, etc.) preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in social services, case management, or community outreach preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with seniors and low‑income individuals or families is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (if applicable)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong time management skills to meet established deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to keep accurate records
  • Experience using case management software is helpful but not required
