Job summary

Skokie Public Library is seeking a full-time Custodian to keep the library clean, safe, and welcoming. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, light maintenance, event setup, and grounds care to support the library’s mission.

The role requires physical activity, flexibility for varied shifts, and a collaborative, customer-service oriented approach. Compensation includes insurance, IMRF pension, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial and maintenance experience.
• Ability to perform the physical tasks listed under Working Conditions.
• Strong teamwork and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of all library areas: sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean glass surfaces.
• Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Set up and arrange furniture for programs and events.
• Care for outdoor grounds: mow, weed, prune, and clear snow/ice.
• Perform light maintenance, including lighting checks and minor repairs.
• Make deliveries and assist with library operations as needed.
• Follow library policies and ensure reliable, punctual attendance.
