Job summary

S:US in New York, NY is seeking a Harm Reduction Specialist to engage with program participants around drug and alcohol use, sexual health, and self-harm using a harm reduction approach.

The role includes training staff, coordinating services, advocating for quality care, and maintaining accurate documentation. The position requires at least two years of harm reduction experience, a high school diploma or GED, and strong communication skills; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Understanding and commitment to S:US mission with harm reduction focus.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s preferred.
• At least two years of experience in a harm reduction model.
• Thorough understanding of harm reduction.
• Transfer knowledge to engage in outreach, counseling, and education.
• Fingerprinted and cleared by the NYS Justice Center.
• Strong verbal and written communication; bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Proficient with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assess needs using harm reduction and plan services at the site.
• Develop strategies to meet needs including outreach and counseling.
• Attend Harm Reduction Committee meetings and support agency projects.
• Provide training on harm reduction to staff and participants.
• Provide service coordination and recovery-oriented support.
• Create and review person-centered service plans with participants.
• Maintain thorough documentation in service records.
• Advocate for quality care from external providers; safety housing support.
• Provide crisis intervention and outreach to disengaged participants.
