Job summary

Bread for the City in Washington, DC, seeks a dedicated Volunteer & Client Engagement Coordinator to sustain our year-round services and Holiday Helpings Campaign. You will oversee volunteer operations, recruit and train volunteers, and serve as the first point of contact at the SE Center.

The role emphasizes engagement with clients, volunteers, and partners, requires strong organization, empathy, and trauma-informed practice, and involves events and community outreach.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred in human services or related field.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office.
• Commitment to serving low-income communities.
• Strong organizational and proactive work ethic.
• Empathetic communication with diverse clients and volunteers.
• Experience or interest in volunteer engagement and outreach.
• Knowledge of Trauma‑Informed Care (training provided).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Google Workspace.
• Accurate data entry and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily center operations and open the center by 8:30 am.
• Greet visitors and direct them to staff and programs.
• Triaging client inquiries with knowledge of local resources.
• Connect clients to internal and external programs.
• Handle incoming calls courteously and efficiently.
• Maintain reception areas and monitor common spaces.
• Provide administrative support and manage mail and supplies.
• Attend community events to promote Bread for the City services.
• Support volunteer recruitment, events, and program coverage.
