Job summary

Community of Hope is seeking a part-time Volunteer Specialist to support a 10-hour-per-week program at a Short Term Family Housing site in Washington, DC. You’ll recruit, orient, supervise volunteers and collaborate with program teams to ensure safe, welcoming activities.

The role emphasizes relationship building with participants, coordinating events, maintaining volunteer guidelines, and helping stories of hope through communications while engaging families and communities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and internet tools.
• Commitment to volunteerism and supporting families affected by homelessness.

Responsibilities

• Attend Fam‑Club and supervise volunteers, including leading orientations two evenings per week.
• Develop relationships with participants to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
• Recruit, screen, and schedule volunteers across programs and attend fairs as needed.
• Plan activities with YES and full‑time staff to engage youth and families.
• Ensure volunteers complete guidelines and obtain parent signatures for minors.
• Support storytelling by collecting photo releases and connecting with families for stories.
• Maintain ongoing volunteer communications to foster long‑term involvement and donations.
• Participate in volunteer appreciation and retention events throughout the year.
