Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Primary Purpose of Position

The overall responsibility of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to connect the project and research team with communities in eastern NC by independently coordinating the project's community outreach program. This includes the management and coordination of all day-to-day project-related community engagement tasks and related events.

Primary duties include: 1) acting as a community-embedded liaison through regular contact with project partners; 2) helping to develop and deliver training workshops that are adapted to local community needs; and 3) assisting Drs. Leslie Cofie and Alice Richman (Principal Investigators) with tracking project progress and ensuring that overall goals are met in a timely manner.

The Community Engagement Coordinator will work to develop outreach strategies and targets prior to deploying the digital literacy trainings. The coordinator will support evaluation of the trainings from a community perspective and implement community-appropriate trainings based on identified community needs.

Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Professional communication skills with researchers and community members.
  • Experience in project implementation and community service delivery, including community coordination, community outreach, community education, and community-based human services.
  • Experience working directly within communities to establish culturally competent connections between community members and human services.
  • Completion of Human Research Protections training.
