Job summary

City of Seattle seeks a Community Crisis Responder I to provide rapid response, crisis intervention, and outreach for individuals in behavioral or mental health crises. You will assess needs, coordinate services, and promote community supports under supervision.

Ideal candidates have a related degree and at least 1 year of relevant experience, plus strong communication and collaboration skills for a busy 24/7 environment in Seattle. This is a full‑time, on‑site role with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with individuals with mental health, substance use, or related concerns.
  • Current Washington State driver's license.
  • Background, fingerprints, and reference checks required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rapid crisis intervention and respond to individuals in crisis.
  • Assess urgent needs related to substance use, mental illness, or safety to determine care.
  • Recommend appropriate governmental/nonprofit supports and housing options.
  • Promote alternatives to jail or hospitalization to stabilize outcomes.
  • Coordinate services between individuals, agencies, and CCR team; up to 30 days of care navigation.
  • Prepare written status reports and document interviews and observations (HIPAA compliant).
  • Participate in meetings and share crisis intervention insights and trends.
  • Collaborate with team and leadership to determine client eligibility for programs.
  • Develop working relationships with service providers and first responders.
  • Manage assigned projects and caseload initiatives.
  • Maintain communications with City departments and partner agencies; conduct site visits.

Education

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field
1 year experience with mental health/substance use concerns
Effective communication skills
Cultural and emotional intelligence
