Job summary

Melwood Horticultural Training Center Inc. in Bowie, MD invites applications for a Community Connector within the Community Services Division. Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent required and three years experience working with people with disabilities or other behavioral issues.
• One year demonstrated ability in providing support in a respectful manner that meets the various needs of individuals served.
• Bachelor's degree in special education, therapeutic recreation, psychology, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with assigned individuals to implement their Individual Plan, integrate them into the community, build skills, and develop daily schedules.
• Engage person served in meaningful community activities that assist people in developing the skills and social supports necessary for growth.
• Inform supervisor and interdisciplinary team on behavioral and daily issues that may occur.
• Provide services as outlined in Individual Plans, ensuring goals are met.
• Demonstrate positive behavioral management techniques and communicate with individuals in a person-centered manner.
• Complete progress notes, daily logs, timesheets, and other documentation promptly.
• Facilitate an individual's self-esteem through positive interactions and trust.
• Develop activities that promote community involvement, self-help employment, and independent living.
• Communicate with supervisor and people supported regarding schedule implementation.
• Attend required training and meetings; perform other duties as assigned.
