Job Description: Communications and Office Manager

Location: Shawnee United Methodist Church, Lima, OH

Part-Time (31 hours/week)

About the Role:

The Communications and Office Manager at Shawnee United Methodist Church plays a vital role in supporting our vision to Connect, Equip, and Restore in the name of Jesus Christ. This position ensures efficient office operations and impactful communication both internally and externally. It combines administrative leadership with creative content development across print, digital, and worship materials. The ideal candidate will be organized, tech-savvy, and enthusiastic about contributing to a collaborative, faith-based team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Office Administration & Workflow Management
    • Serve as the first point of contact for the church via phone, email, and in person
    • Manage church calendar and room use scheduling
    • Maintain up-to-date records and files for membership and church administration
    • Order and track office and ministry supplies
    • Maintain and update church membership database and email groups
    • Process mail, file forms, maintain key logs, and perform other administrative tasks
  2. Worship & Program Support
    • Design weekly worship bulletins and slides for multiple services
    • Coordinate printing and folding of bulletins and other worship materials
    • Provide clerical support for church programs and events
  3. Communications & Design
    • Design print and digital materials for events, ministries, and campaigns
    • Create and schedule social media posts
    • Maintain and update church website and event listings
    • Assist with email communications and scheduling email newsletters
    • Ensure consistency in visual branding and messaging across platforms
  4. Financial & Facility Support
    • Track office purchases and expenses
    • Coordinate with facility vendors for supplies and services
    • Assist in scheduling building maintenance or service visits as needed
  5. Staff & Leadership Support
    • Support pastoral and program staff with clerical and logistical needs
    • Assist in preparing reports and materials for leadership teams
    • Help maintain updated contact information and communication tools for staff
    • Assist with hospitality and preparation for meetings and special events
Required Competencies and Skills:
  • Excellent people skills; welcoming and friendly
  • Proficiency in word processing, Google Workspace, presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides), and social media management platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube)
  • Experience with Canva or similar graphic design platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a faith-based environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with church office environments or nonprofit administration
  • Experience with church database software (e.g., Planning Center)
  • Working knowledge of website platforms
