Job Summary:

The Commissioning Project Manager is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day management and execution of commissioning operations, potentially across multiple projects. This leadership role requires coordination of personnel, close collaboration with project owners, and integration of commissioning activities with overall project objectives. The position ensures all systems and components are designed, installed, tested, and operated in accordance with operational and performance standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Project and Operations Management

  • Perform day‑to‑day management of overall commissioning operations across projects and teams.
  • Assist the Project Executive with managingand controllingfinancial and administrative aspects of projects in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Organize, direct, and coordinate planning and execution of all commissioning support documents and activities.
  • Manage the acquisition and utilization of project resources.
  • Establish and modify management structures to support effective contract activities.

Client and Stakeholder Interface

  • Serve as the primary interface with project owners and senior project teams regarding technical commissioning issues.
  • Communicate project policies, objectives, and goals tocommissioningpersonnel and stakeholders.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Lead and supervise the commissioning team, including contractor personnel and internal staff.
  • Assign contractor schedules, review discrepancies in work performance, and ensure adherence to work standards.

Commissioning Process Oversight

  • Provide leadership in the development and review of commissioning plans and documentation.
  • Oversee all commissioning activities to ensure quality, compliance, and consistency with project goals.
  • Track and manage updates to formal commissioning documents and resolve commissioning issues.

Communication and Reporting

  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills in delivering project updates, technical explanations, and issue resolution.
  • Report progress, challenges, and solutions to senior leadership and clients.

Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.

Attributes/Abilities:

  • Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or randomdrug test.
  • Skilled in commissioning toolsand associated software.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, OSHA electrical safety standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Experience with electrical systems including generators, switchgear and breakers, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems with battery backup, static transfer systems, and power distribution equipment.
  • Proficient in electrical testing practices such as current monitoring, power quality analysis, and testing procedures aligned with National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) standards.
  • Skilled in mechanical system startups and acceptance procedures, as well as control programming for Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Knowledgeable in various fire suppression systems including water, pre-action, gas, and chemical delivery systems.
  • Experienced with advanced smoke detection systems, particularly Very Early Warning Smoke Detection Alarm Systems (VESDA).

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related disciplinepreferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience, with 4 years specialized in commissioning and 4 years as a Commissioning Manager on contracts of similar size, complexity, and team composition.

Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of office and field work environment with frequent travel to project sites
  • May require working in various environmental conditions, including construction sites, operational facilities, and energized equipment up to 136kV
  • Ability tolift upto 50 pounds.
  • Potential low exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.

Actual pay depends on factors such as work location and market, skills, education, experience, and other job‑related qualifications. Beyond base pay, POWERX offers a full benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off and leave benefits. Eligible roles may include additional compensation such as bonuses or incentives.

Maryland Pay Range

$135,000 - $155,000 USD
