Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) in Reston, VA, seeks a Commissioning Engineer to lead and support commissioning of commercial HVAC and plumbing systems. You will work with project teams to verify performance, test procedures, and installations meet design specs, quality standards, and client expectations.

The role requires a 4+ year background in MEP commissioning, a mechanical engineering degree, and familiarity with operations and control systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or related field plus 4+ years in MEP commissioning.
• Commissioning certification preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing and control systems; familiar with diagnostic tools.
• Proficient in reading design documents and specifications, focusing on operations and controls.
• Willingness to travel to DMV region; travel up to 30–40%.

Requirements for this role include:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or a construction related field AND 4+ years of experience in MEP systems commissioning, testing, or a related field.
• Commissioning Certification (BCxP, CxA, CxT, CCP, etc.) preferred, not required.
• Possess a strong understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and control systems. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting design documents and specifications, specifically a strong understanding of operations and controls.
• Ability to travel to different project locations, specifically in the DMV region, as required.

This position is based at our HQ in Reston, VA. This role will also require travel to work sites in the DMV area, which can be up to 30-40% of the role.
