Job summary

A leading HVAC services provider in Washington DC is hiring HVAC Start-up/Commissioning Technicians for full-time positions in commercial projects. Overview

JCM Associates, Inc. is hiring HVAC Start-up/Commissioning Technicians for full time year-round positions in commercial mechanical construction projects in the Maryland, Washington DC, Northern VA area.

Our main office and fabrication facilities are in Upper Marlboro, MD - located just 20 minutes from DC. We provide wellness programs and an in-house gym as well as many social functions throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Start-up, commission, maintain, and service industrial/commercial HVAC systems and plumbing equipment. Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.
  • Utilize laptops/tablets to document startup and commissioning forms required per project specifications.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, models, and/or verbal and written instructions.
  • Prove mechanical and plumbing systems being controlled by building automation systems to third party Commissioning firm.
  • Share partial supervision of NEBB Tab contractor and respond to punch listed equipment.
  • Interface and coordinate activities with ATC sub-contractor.
  • Service and repair evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repack valves, lubricate moving parts, replace filters, and clean coils.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace thermostats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  • Repair or replace compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
  • Maintain refrigerant inventory and consumption logs.
  • Follow established safety procedures and utilize safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to trades or skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by direct manager.
  • Complete some minor copper tubing; cut and thread pipe; make pipe and low voltage connections.
  • Provide proper methods of storing and maintaining tools, equipment, and supplies in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences, as well as the time and materials expended on work orders.
  • Test pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks, using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
  • Teach and instruct helper on the installation of a HVAC system.
Minimum Skills/Requirements
  • CFC/Universal License
  • 5 years of experience building commercial mechanical projects or equipment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems
  • Ability to read, understand and work from drawings, specifications, and schematics
  • Understands written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
