Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to lead complex HVAC and plumbing projects from initiation to closeout. The role sits at our Reston, VA headquarters, with travel to DMV-area sites as needed.

You will manage budgets, schedules, procurement, and subcontracting, coordinating across design, field, and procurement teams to deliver high-quality, on-time installations. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in commercial construction or MEP project management,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management in commercial construction or MEP contracting
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and MEP systems
• Experience managing $2M–$50M+ projects
• Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera P6)
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
• Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 30–40%)

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical projects from concept through closeout.
• Coordinate with stakeholders across design, procurement, and field teams.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and contracts.
• Oversee procurement, subcontracting, and change management.
• Travel to DMV-area sites as project demands.

Requirements for this role include:

• 5+ years of Project Management experience in commercial construction, MEP contracting, or with a General Contractor.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and MEP systems.
• Experience managing projects ranging from $2M to $50M+ preferred.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and contract administration.
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar construction management software.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

This position is based at our HQ in Reston, VA. This role will also require travel to work sites in the DMV area, which can be up to 30-40% of the role.
