Job summary

UNC-Chapel Hill is seeking an Engineer-2 to lead commissioning and energy management for campus projects. You will develop scopes, select agents, negotiate contracts, review plans, and supervise tests and training across complex systems, including lab environments.

The role requires strong technical and communication skills and on-site presence in Chapel Hill. Responsibilities include identifying energy projects, performing cost analyses, coordinating with facilities, and ensuring projects stay

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Licensure by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers may be required for some positions.
• Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural plans.
• Experience programming and commissioning HVAC control systems and retro-commissioning.
• Knowledge of NC building codes and energy conservation practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop commissioning scope of work for capital projects.
• Select and coordinate 3rd party commissioning agents and negotiate contracts.
• Oversee commissioning work and review design submittals and basis of design.
• Coordinate functional testing, system training, and project team communication.
• Provide ongoing commissioning support for BAS, EMS, and energy measures.
• Support energy management including audits, calculations, and life-cycle analyses.
