A leading global beauty brand is seeking a Manager of Commercial Strategy to turn retail performance data into clear business decisions. This is not a shopper marketing or retail activation role. It is a commercially focused strategy position for someone who understands how branded CPG businesses win across mass, drug, grocery, club, specialty and e-commerce channels.
What You Will Own
- Lead the development of quarterly business reviews, translating retailer, category, brand and SKU performance into a concise commercial narrative with clear implications and recommended actions.
- Analyze syndicated, retailer and internal shipment data to identify distribution opportunities, velocity gaps, assortment risks, pricing and promotional dynamics, market share movement and sources of growth.
- Build fact-based perspectives on performance by retailer, channel, category and brand; distinguish short-term fluctuations from structural opportunities or risks.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing to convert insights into commercial priorities, customer plans, innovation choices and investment decisions.
- Develop recurring scorecards and decision tools that create one reliable view of business performance without allowing reporting to become the end product.
- Support annual planning, forecasting and long-range growth initiatives with market sizing, opportunity assessments and scenario analysis.
- Evaluate new product performance, distribution productivity and assortment effectiveness, and recommend where the portfolio should expand, protect or redirect resources.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leaders with clarity, confidence and an appropriate level of commercial challenge.
- Improve the tools, routines and cross-functional ways of working that connect data to faster, better decisions in an evolving environment.
What You Bring
Required retail CPG experience, with a strong understanding of how branded products perform and grow through major retail customers and channels.
- Typically 5 or more years of experience in commercial strategy, category management, sales strategy, customer insights, revenue growth management or a closely related retail CPG discipline.
- Hands‑on expertise with Circana, NielsenIQ or comparable syndicated data, including the ability to move beyond reporting and explain what the data means for the business.
- Demonstrated ownership of QBRs or comparable executive business reviews—from analysis and storyline development through presentation and follow‑through.
- Ability to connect market, retailer and internal financial or shipment data into a coherent point of view.
- Strong knowledge of distribution, velocity, assortment, pricing, promotion, innovation and market‑share drivers.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with retailer portals, data visualization or business intelligence platforms is valuable.
- Executive presence and communication skills strong enough to simplify complexity, defend a recommendation and influence across functions without formal authority.
- A builder's mindset suited to a fast‑moving portfolio environment where processes continue to evolve.
- Beauty, personal care or adjacent consumer‑category experience is strongly preferred.
How This Role Creates Value
The Manager of Commercial Strategy will be the connective tissue between performance data and commercial action. Success will be measured by the quality of the insights produced, the clarity of the recommendations made and the team's ability to act on them—not by the number of reports generated or shopper programs executed.
