Job summary

The City of Eugene is seeking a Commercial Plans Examiner in the Planning & Development, Building & Permit Services division. This onsite role coordinates plan reviews with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and city codes.

Qualifications

• Two years’ professional experience in building design or a building construction-related field.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain by date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Acts as primary contact for internal city plan review staff involved in multi-family residential, commercial, and industrial plan reviews.
• Review and interpret the City’s Administrative Code (EC 8.005) and State building codes for which certified.
• Coordinate reviews by other departments, divisions, and public agencies; present staff review comments to applicants.
• Examine plans and documents to determine compliance with State building, fire/life safety, and mechanical codes.
• Approve plans, identify conditions of approval, and issue permits for construction.

Education

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the assigned program area. Master’s degree preferred.
