Job summary

Staffmark Group is hiring a Commercial Maintenance Technician in Niles, IL. The role focuses on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs to keep production lines and facilities running safely and efficiently.

You will read work orders, perform repairs across plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC systems, and document activities using a tablet. A high school diploma or trade cert is preferred with 2–5 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or trade certification preferred
• 2-5 years of experience in maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or related trades
• Prior experience in facility maintenance, construction, landscaping, or janitorial services is highly preferred
• Read and follow safety procedures, manuals, and work orders
• Operate tablet/smartphone and basic computer software to log notes and submit reports

Responsibilities

• Complete preventive maintenance and corrective repairs according to work orders
• Perform minor plumbing tasks (unclog drains, repair leaks, replace fixtures)
• Complete routine carpentry and painting tasks (patch drywall, match paint, small repairs)
• Conduct minor electrical repairs allowed by state law (replace outlets, switches, lighting components)
• Perform HVAC, equipment, and building system checks as needed
• Conduct site and asset inspections
• Use a tablet/smartphone to complete work orders, log notes, upload photos, and submit reports
• Maintain tools, obtain materials, and track expenses
• Communicate professionally with customers to ensure satisfaction
• Attend required safety training and follow OSHA and company safety standards
• Provide estimates for larger repairs or projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related technical environment is preferred.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance programs and responding to equipment breakdowns is beneficial.
• Knowledge of PLCs, electrical controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, or fabrication is considered an asset.
• Individuals who demonstrate strong troubleshooting abilities, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous improvement are well positioned for success as a Commercial Maintenance Technician.

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in a variety of industrial environments throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift equipment, tools, and replacement parts weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to safely work around moving machinery while following established safety procedures.
• Manual dexterity to operate tools, perform repairs, and inspect equipment.
