Job summary

Centralmechanical is hiring for a senior automation engineer to design and implement BAS controls across multiple HVAC systems. You will develop control algorithms, download code to controllers, and manage databases, while coordinating with IT for network integration and providing customer training on system operations.

You should have a mechanical engineering background with 6+ years in Siemens Apogee/Desigo and strong programming, blueprint reading, and HVAC knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience with Siemens Apogee and Desigo.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems (unitary systems to central plants).
  • Troubleshooting skills to distinguish HVAC vs. computer/controller issues.
  • General understanding of IP networks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming (Java, C++).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • BACnet/LonWorks/Tridium NIAGARA/Distech/Eclypse/Direct Digital Controls/Siemens/Schnieder preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create control algorithms, download source code to controllers, and manage system databases.
  • Implement an animated front-end graphical user interface.
  • Integrate multiple protocols and platforms via a single front end.
  • Lead start-ups, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of BAS controls and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate network drops, IP addresses, and monitoring tools with IT staff.
  • Work with vendors to coordinate communication protocols and database requirements.
  • Generate semi‑complex reports to analyze system operation and verify scope compliance.
  • Support final inspection, customer acceptance, and end-user training.
  • Provide Plans & Control System Documents for as-built drawings.
  • Mentor other specialists with automation or HVAC knowledge.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create control algorithms, download source code to controllers, manage system databases, and implement an animated front-end graphical user interface.
  • Experience in multiple systems integration, getting different protocols to talk to each other and share information. One front end for multiple platforms.
  • Executes project start-ups, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of installed BAS controls and mechanical systems on assigned projects.
  • Participates in the layout and coordination of network drops, IP addresses and monitoring tools with customer\'s IT Department personnel.
  • Works with equipment vendors to coordinate communication protocols, encryption, and database requirements for integration to their systems.
  • Runs semi-complex reports to analyze system operation, works with project team to demonstrate system operation and verify consistency with the contracted scope of work.
  • Participates in final inspection and testing, assures customer acceptance, and conducts training for end user customers on system operations.
  • Provides Plans & Control System Documents to application engineering for as-built drawings using the latest digital technology.
  • Mentors other specialists who may need specific automation or HVAC product knowledge.

  • Must have working knowledge of HVAC systems - Unitary Systems to Central Plants.
  • Troubleshooting skills for determining HVAC vs. computer/controller issues.
  • General understanding of IP networks.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming. (Java, C++)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
  • BACnet and/or LON, Lonworks Control Systems, Tridium NIAGARA AX/NIAGARA 4/Distech/Eclypse, Direct Digital Controls, Honeywell Webs, MODbus, Alerton, Johnson Controls FX, Staefa, Solidyne, Andover Controls, Siemens, and Schnieder preferred

Geographic Disclosure

Compensation Range: $55.00 - $70.00 per hour
