FreshDirect is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Legal team, reporting to the General Counsel. The role covers commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, governance, and operational matters for a fast-growing, tech-enabled food business.

The successful candidate will bring 5+ years of relevant legal experience, strong contract negotiation skills, and a practical, business-focused approach. In-house or law firm experience is valued.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
• Strong legal research, analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
• Ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders and provide business-oriented advice
• Experience advising on regulatory compliance, data governance, privacy, or related matters is a plus

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of commercial agreements (vendor, procurement, technology, logistics, etc.)
• Partner with stakeholders to provide practical legal advice on commercial, operational, and strategic matters
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies, including food retail and e-commerce
• Develop and maintain legal templates, policies, and training materials
• Work with outside counsel and external advisors on various matters
• Contribute to data governance and contract management initiatives
• Support corporate governance matters and regulatory developments
