Job Responsibilities

• Use spot welding guns or hand, electric, or gas welding equipment to weld or tack weld components.
• Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, and operate valves to control the mixture.
• Adjust flame temperature, size, and color by burning torch and regulating gas and air flow.
• Preheat workpieces for welding or shaping using a torch.
• Fill holes, correct mistakes, and modify metal workpieces as needed.
• Inspect workpieces for weaknesses and measure to ensure specifications are met.
• Ascend ladders or scaffolds to access work areas.
• Signal crane operators for lifting large workpieces.
• Use thermal-cutting equipment like flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc tools to disassemble or cut scrap metal.
• Handle workpieces with hoists, cranes, wires, banding machines, or hand tools.
• Select appropriate welding locations based on metal type, thickness, and temperature considerations.
• Apply flame or electrodes to straighten, curve, or develop metal parts.
• Join pieces, cover taut points, and add metal to develop components.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• No minimum education requirements.
• 3-5 years of Journeyman-level welding experience.

Physical Demands

Employees must be able to sit, handle, reach, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, and communicate effectively. Regular lifting of up to 25 pounds is required, with the ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
