Job description

Job Title: Machinery and Heavy Equipment Technician

We are seeking a skilled technician capable of installing, repairing, replacing, and dismantling machinery and heavy equipment used in industrial settings. The role involves performing essential duties outlined below, with additional responsibilities as assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Replace defective machine parts or adjust clearances and alignments of moving parts.
2. Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
3. Connect power units to machines or steam piping to equipment, and test units to evaluate mechanical operation.
4. Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
5. Assemble and install equipment with hand and power tools.
6. Position steel beams to support bedplates, using blueprints and schematic drawings to determine procedures.
7. Coordinate with crane operators to lower and align assembly units.
8. Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, and position parts using measuring instruments to set specified clearances.
9. Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
10. Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic units.
11. Assemble machines and secure them to foundations using bolting, welding, riveting, or other fasteners.
12. Lay out mounting holes and drill with power drills.
13. Bolt parts to assembly units.
14. Level bedplates and establish centerlines with levels and transit tools.
15. Dismantle machines with hand tools.
16. Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels using portable gas heating equipment.
17. Dismantle machinery for shipment and perform installation and maintenance as part of a team.
18. Construct foundations using hand tools and construction materials.
19. Operate engine lathes for grinding, filing, and turning machine parts to specifications.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
