Job description

Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Neuroscience and Neuroimmunology

Kim Lab | Columbia University Irving Medical Center | New York, NY, USA

The laboratory of Dr. Minah Kim in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position focused on blood–brain barrier dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease. The project investigates how brain endothelial dysfunction compromises blood–brain barrier integrity and contributes to Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in neuroscience and/or neuroimmunology.

The successful candidate will use mouse models, human specimens, and relevant datasets to investigate the mechanisms linking cerebrovascular dysfunction, blood–brain barrier disruption, and neuroinflammation.

Research Focus
  • Molecular and cellular mechanisms of brain endothelial dysfunction and blood–brain barrier disruption.
  • Interactions between vascular dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
  • Mechanistic studies integrating experimental models with human specimens and data.
  • Analysis of spatial transcriptomics and RNA-seq datasets to characterize vascular and immune cell states, disease-associated pathways, and cellular interactions in Alzheimer’s disease, integrating these findings with experimental studies.
Qualifications
  • A MD and/or PhD in neuroscience, immunology, vascular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field, completed before the appointment begins.
  • Research experience in neuroscience or neuroimmunology is preferred.
  • Experience studying Alzheimer’s disease, neurodegeneration, the blood–brain barrier, or cerebrovascular biology is an advantage.
  • Strong scientific curiosity, communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience analyzing spatial transcriptomics and/or RNA-seq data, including bulk, single-cell, or single-nucleus RNA-seq, is preferred. Familiarity with R or Python and relevant bioinformatics workflows is a plus.
  • Institution: Columbia University Irving Medical Center
  • Department: Pathology and Cell Biology
  • Location: New York, NY, USA
  • Position: Postdoctoral Research Scientist
  • Curriculum vitae, including publications.
  • Cover letter describing your research experience and motivation for applying.
