Job description

Job Description

The University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Medicine, Department of Neurology has a full-time postdoctoral position available in the Ciryam Lab.

The Department of Neurology provides evaluation, treatment, and care for patients suffering from a wide range of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and migraine. We provide care through our inpatient and consultative services, our designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, our Level 4 Epilepsy Center, our 22-bed Neuro-Critical Care Unit, and our busy outpatient practice. The Department also provides state-of-the-art rehabilitation services. A number of departmental faculty received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran's Administration to study the role of genetics in stroke, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease, new brain imaging modalities in multiple sclerosis, biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability. Many faculty are lead investigators in clinical trials to identify new therapeutic approaches for a broad range of neurological disorders.

The Ciryam Lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher for research in molecular and cellular neuroinflammation of acute brain injury. The projects will focus on inflammatory changes after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an animal model. The emphasis of the lab is on the identification of mechanistic therapeutic targets for acute brain injury.

Individuals who are interested should submit a detailed CV; a brief statement including a research plan, interests, and skills; the names of three references; and a short description of their doctoral training and future research goals to:

Prajwal Ciryam MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Neurology and Trauma
Department of Neurology

9th Floor, Rm 9104
Baltimore MD 21201

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated, career-oriented research individual, with a PhD in neuroscience, immunology, or a related field. The applicant must have experience with transgenic mice and animal surgeries; Western blot and polymerase chain reaction (PCR); and immunohistochemistry. Experience with design and implementation of CRISPR knock down strategies; in vivo viral transduction; single-cell RNA sequencing; and/or flow cytometry is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and in collaboration are necessary.
