We are seeking an experienced collector to join our Collections Team in Tallahassee or Panama City, FL. Ideal candidates have banking or credit union experience and at least one year of direct collections experience.

Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining accurate records and managing delinquent loan accounts, including consumer loans, mortgages, negative share and share draft accounts, and credit cards.

Essential Functions

• Work delinquent accounts effectively, including consumer loans, mortgages, business loans, credit cards, and negative share accounts, ensuring timely mailing of collection notices.
• Maintain accurate notes in the collections system for all delinquent accounts.
• Ensure compliance with the Fair Debt Collections Act, credit union policies, and procedures.
• Calculate and correct payments for error corrections on loan accounts.
• Keep collection files current and well-maintained.
• Recommend accounts for repo and legal action to the Collections Manager.
• Perform skip tracing.
• Collaborate daily with the Collections Director on problem accounts.
• File CUNA claims and coordinate with accounting on member claims.
• Prioritize high-balance accounts and work lesser accounts to reduce overall delinquency.
• Coordinate with Card Services to ensure proper charge-offs for credit cards.
• Negotiate and define collections work-outs with members, representing the credit union throughout the process.

• Provide financial counseling to members as needed.
• Educate staff on collections to prevent negative situations.
• Work with management to minimize losses from loans and negative accounts.
