Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem is seeking a skilled leader to oversee housing inspections and code enforcement activities. This role reports to the Deputy Community and Business Development Director and provides ongoing oversight of the inspections team.

Key responsibilities include supervising staff, training officers, handling citizen complaints, reviewing enforcement data, and coordinating corrective actions on neighborhood hotspots.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with considerable experience in housing inspections and supervisory roles.
• Technical or bachelor degree may be preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans and designs.

Responsibilities

• Oversees Neighborhood Conservation Officer and field abatement staff activities.
• Trains Neighborhood Conservation Officers.
• Assists Code Enforcement Senior Project Supervisor with code enforcement delivery.
• Investigates citizen complaints with fairness concerning inspections, invoices, and abatements.
• Analyzes reports of code enforcement and takes appropriate action.
• Identifies illegal dumping violators and follows-through appropriately.
• Develops and remains current on code enforcement and related fields.
• Inspects thoroughfares for aesthetic appearance and coordinates corrective action.
