Job summary

Bigham Cable Construction, Inc. is seeking a Coax Splicer to join our telecom construction team in Asheville, NC. You will splice coaxial networks for internet, cable TV, and telephone services, performing aerial and underground upgrades with emphasis on safety and quality.

You will test, activate, and troubleshoot installed equipment, maintain daily reports, and ensure materials are tracked accurately. A DOT medical card and valid driver's license are required, with opportunity for growth and

• Coax splicing experience or related telecommunications work preferred.
• Able to pass a DOT physical exam and obtain a medical card.
• Valid state driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Willingness to climb poles and work at heights as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground.
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment post-installation.
• Ensure all splicing operations meet customer and industry standards.
• Safely navigate working at different heights from underground to aerial installations.
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Document work in daily production reports and map markers, track material use.

Job description

At Bigham Cable Construction, Inc., as a Coax Splicer, you’ll work in telecommunications construction, splicing coaxial system networks for communication companies that provide internet, cable TV, and telephone services.

What you’ll do

• With guidance, perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment post-installation
• Ensure all splicing operations meet strict customer and industry standards
• Safely navigate working at different heights, from underground to in the air
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks
• Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records
• Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
• Six months of coax splicing experience or one year of experience in the telecommunications industry
• Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber, is preferred

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work in confined space, operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motion, work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: use ladder and gaffs for climbing poles
