Job summary

Bigham Cable Construction, Inc. is seeking a Coax Splicer to join our telecommunications crew. You’ll splice coaxial networks for internet, cable TV, and phone services, and perform splicing tasks both aerially and underground with guidance.

You’ll test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation and ensure work meets strict industry standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Six months of coax splicing experience or one year in the telecommunications industry.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam for a valid medical card.

Responsibilities

  • With guidance, perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment post-installation
  • Ensure all splicing operations meet industry standards
  • Safely navigate work at different heights, from underground to in the air
  • Complete basic daily vehicle maintenance and document work via daily reports

What you’ll do
  • With guidance, perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment post-installation
  • Ensure all splicing operations meet strict customer and industry standards
  • Safely navigate working at different heights, from underground to in the air
  • Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks
  • Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records
  • Other duties as assigned
What you’ll need
  • To be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Valid State driver's license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
  • Six months of coax splicing experience or one year of experience in the telecommunications industry
  • Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber, is preferred

Physical abilities & exposures

  • Routinely: work in confined space, operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motion, work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
  • Occasionally: use ladder and gaffs for climbing poles
