Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Coatings Inspector I to perform basic inspections of protective coating work under supervision. You will verify surface prep, measure film thickness and ambient conditions, document each step, and support senior inspectors on tanks, structures, and pipelines.

The role requires CIP Level 1 certification and at least 1 year of industrial coatings experience, with meticulous instrument use and precise record-keeping.

Qualifications

• AMPP (NACE) CIP Level 1 certification is required and current.
• 1+ years in industrial coatings application or inspection.
• Comfortable working in tanks, on structures, and around blasting and spray operations.
• Meticulous with instruments and records.
• Honest about what the gauge reads.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record ambient conditions before and during application (temperature, humidity, dew point).
• Verify surface preparation to SSPC/NACE cleanliness and profile standards.
• Measure wet and dry film thickness; check for holidays and defects.
• Verify coating materials, batch numbers, mixing, and pot life against the manufacturer data sheet.
• Keep the daily coating inspection log and photograph each stage of the work.
