Job summary

GEI Consultants in Wakefield, MA is seeking an Engineering Intern or Co-Op to work on waterfront and coastal projects across the Northeast. You’ll gain hands-on experience solving real-world challenges in marine environments while learning from experienced engineers and scientists.

This role involves design work, field surveys, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, and permitting support, with office, field, and occasional on-site work.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a Civil, Structural, or Ocean Engineering (or related) B.S. program at an ABET‑accredited school. M.S. students are also welcome!
• A strong sense of curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail.
• Experience (or strong desire to learn) AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Revit.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel for site work (some overnight trips)
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Support design and analysis of coastal and waterfront structures.
• Participate in field surveys, inspections, and construction oversight - from pile driving to concrete placement or helping with above and below water inspections.
• Develop your technical skills using AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil3D.
• Perform calculations, preparing spreadsheets, and contributing to design documentation.
• Shadowing our engineers to learn what the career path looks like after graduation.
• Assisting with permitting, project coordination, and client support as needed.
