Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking a CNC Shop Supervisor to lead a production team focused on precision machining of power transmission components. You will set up and operate CNC lathes, oversee daily department activities, coach staff, and ensure safety and quality standards are met across shifts.

The role emphasizes hands-on leadership on the shop floor, continuous improvement, and collaboration with multiple departments to maintain efficient schedules and high-quality output.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in CNC programming, CNC operation, and machining, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Leadership: motivate, guide, and develop team members to achieve goals.
• Shop floor presence: spend ~2/3 of shift overseeing operations.
• Communication: engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and challenges.
• Team collaboration and cooperative work environment.
• Safety leadership: promote and enforce safety standards and practices.
• Performance management: creating plans of action and conducting evaluations.
• Detail orientation: ensure quality and precision in tasks.
• Technical proficiency: MS Office and other software.

Responsibilities

• CNC Operation: Set up full production cycle and operate CNC Lathe machines for turning, drilling, bar feeding, and live tooling.
• Department Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations, safety, timekeeping and performance management.
• Employee Management: Coach and evaluate performance to support productivity.
• Training & Development: Onboard and train new employees, ongoing skill development.
• Order Management: Expedite and prioritize shop orders to meet schedules.
• Cross-Department Coordination: Collaborate with management and other departments.
• Workplace Safety & Maintenance: Keep machines and areas clean, safe, and organized.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and improvements.
• Problem-Solving: Address production or personnel issues promptly.
• Compliance: Adhere to policies, quality standards, and regulations.
