Job summary

KBR seeks a Machinist/Model Maker for an AFIT contract located at Wright-Patterson AFB. You will provide machining, maintenance, and design support to AFIT students and faculty, taking projects from start to finish with precision.

The role requires setting up and operating a range of machines, writing CNC programs, and collaborating with professors to design, inspect, and finish components. This is a full-time, in-person position with travel around 10% and shift work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field, or Associate degree/Certificate in CAM or related field with 4 years Machinist/Model Maker experience; or 8 years relevant experience in lieu of formal education.
• CAD experience
• Ability to apply basic tolerances and GD&T
• Ability to use MS Office and troubleshoot basic computer issues
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, indicators

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate ProtoTrak mills/lathes, CNC milling centers, waterjet, surface grinders, 3D printers, MIG/TIG welders, sawing equipment, woodworking tools, paint equipment, and inspection equipment
• Write CNC programs using machine controllers, DXFs, conversational software and CAM software
• Hand finish, alter, and fit machined components and assemblies
• Assist in design and machining of parts using CAD, sketches, and verbal directions
• Consult with students, staff, and professors to design, manufacture, inspect, and finish components and assemblies
• Troubleshoot machined assemblies and mechanical systems
• Maintain shop and perform basic blueprint interpretation
• Work to safety and quality standards
