Job summary

Qualis LLC is seeking a skilled Machinist to join the Component Development Area (CDA) machine shop at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on fabrication and precision machining of flight hardware and ground-testing components, with an emphasis on safety and teamwork.

You will set up and operate MAZAK Quickturn/Integrex machines, lathes, mills and grinders, fabricate fixtures, and inspect parts to tight tolerances.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent with machining experience.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience or 2 years with an Associate's degree.
• Ability to operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
• Proficiency in CNC programming for MAZAK machines.
• Understanding of working properties of stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, brass, aluminum, Inconel, and sealing materials.
• Knowledge of applied trigonometry for fixture fabrication and tooling.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with design engineers.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate MAZAK Quickturn and Integrex, manual lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Fabricate parts, fixtures, and tools to produce flight hardware.
• Produce and inspect components to tight tolerances per specifications.
• Troubleshoot complex fabrication issues.
• Maintain machine shop inventory of tools, stock, and fixtures.
• Follow PPE and safety requirements and report hazards.
• Collaborate with design engineers during project phases.
• Provide on-the-job training to teammates.
