Job summary

KBR, Inc on the TACOM program is seeking an Automotive Machinist to set up and operate machine tools, fabricating and repairing precision metal parts for Army systems. You will verify tolerances, inspect components, and supervise junior workers, ensuring safety and quality across a demanding shop environment.

The role requires experience with manual machining and CNC tools, ability to read drawings, and a willingness to work in physically demanding conditions on a contingent award basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; special tech or vocational training preferred.
• 5 years machining experience or comparable training with certification.
• Working knowledge of manual machining processes; CNC experience a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments.
• Knowledge of machining practices, tooling, and materials.
• Ability to perform work in physically demanding environments.
• Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required).
• U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools to fabricate, modify, or repair metal parts.
• Machine and grind engine components such as crankshafts, camshafts, flywheels, and blocks.
• Make initial serviceability determinations for engine components.
• Determine if parts should be salvaged or repaired based on evaluation and testing.
• Determine procedures, select tools, lay out work, and operate machines (boring bar, lathes, drills, etc.).
• Work with diverse metals (steel, cast iron, brass, copper, aluminum).
• Use precision gauges and fixtures to ensure tolerances per specs.
• Determine serviceability and salvaging decisions for various components.
• Oversee lower-grade workers in measurement, examination, assembly, and related tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
