Job summary

Protolabs is seeking a Machinist I in Minnesota for a FLEX shift (Fri–Sun, 6 pm–6 am) to program, set up, and operate CNC milling and lathe machines for precision prototype parts. You will collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to meet exact specifications, driving continuous improvement.

The role requires blueprint reading, measuring with calipers and gauges, and proficiency with Mastercam, SolidWorks, and CAD/CAM.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as CNC Milling or CNC lathe operator with setup and some programming.
• Knowledge of prototype manufacturing Machining and related education.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Mastercam and CAD/CAM.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments (protractors, calipers, height gauges).
• Ability to interpret and explain written and statistical data.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
• Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively.
• Highly developed teamwork skills.
• Demonstrates confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuous improvement while being cost-sensitive.
• Commitment to customer or employee service.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC milling or CNC lathe machines and run jobs meeting tight specs.
• Prepare CAM files from CAD files, prints, and verbal instructions.
• Provide quick turnaround of parts with accuracy.
• Maintain organization of jobs and material inventory.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance on machines and shop equipment.
• Conduct thorough part inspections and determine quality decisions.
• Ensure timely completion of jobs for on-time delivery.
• Adhere to quality and safety standards in the department.
• Support daily production by solving chronic issues.
• Complete operator PMs during shift.
