Job summary

Amtec Staffing is seeking a hands-on Machining Department Lead to oversee a small machining team in Santa Clarita. The role requires setting up CNC machines, editing CNC programs at the machine, and ensuring GD&T compliance on complex drawings.

You will lead daily operations, mentor machinists, troubleshoot production issues, and drive on-time delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of machining experience, preferably CNC machining or machine shop.
• Hands-on CNC setup experience: job setup, tooling, workholding, offsets, machine adjustments.
• Edit and modify CNC code directly at the machine and adjust programs as needed.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds, and practices.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and resolve dimensional/setup problems.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising machinists or operators.
• Strong organizational, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Take ownership of daily operations and manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily machining operations, assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress.
• Provide hands-on support with CNC setup, changeovers, tooling, workholding, and offsets.
• Modify CNC programs directly at the machine to meet production needs.
• Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T requirements.
• Troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
• Guide machinists and operators to ensure safe, accurate production.
• Monitor schedules, workflow, quality, and turnaround times.
• Set expectations, address performance or workflow concerns.
• Identify delays, equipment issues, and quality risks.
• Maintain an organized work area and support continuous improvement.
