Amtec Staffing is seeking a hands-on Machining Department Lead to oversee a small machining team in Santa Clarita. The role requires setting up CNC machines, editing CNC programs at the machine, and ensuring GD&T compliance on complex drawings.

You will lead daily operations, mentor machinists, troubleshoot production issues, and drive on-time delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of machining experience, preferably CNC machining or machine shop.
• Hands-on CNC setup experience: job setup, tooling, workholding, offsets, machine adjustments.
• Edit and modify CNC code directly at the machine and adjust programs as needed.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds, and practices.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and resolve dimensional/setup problems.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising machinists or operators.
• Strong organizational, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Take ownership of daily operations and manage competing priorities.

We are seeking a hands-on Machining Department Lead / Supervisor to oversee daily operations in a small machining department. This role combines technical machining expertise with team leadership, requiring the ability to set up CNC machines, modify CNC programs at the machine level, interpret engineering drawings, and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Required Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of machining experience, preferably in a CNC machining or machine shop environment.
• Strong hands-on CNC setup experience, including job setup, tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine adjustments.
• Demonstrated ability to edit and modify CNC code directly at the machine, including making program adjustments to support machining operations and troubleshoot issues.

• Experience troubleshooting machining problems and resolving dimensional or setup issues.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising machinists, machine operators, or other production personnel.
• Strong organizational, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to take ownership of daily operations, manage competing priorities, and maintain accountability for results.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Lead Machinist, CNC Lead, Machining Supervisor, Setup Machinist, or similar role.
• Experience overseeing a small machining team in a job shop or manufacturing environment.
• Experience coordinating production schedules and ensuring work is completed on time and to quality standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role, not solely a production coordination position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly with CNC equipment, resolving technical machining challenges, and guiding the team through daily production demands.
