Aerotek is seeking a CNC Lathe Machinist in Troy, MI to set up and operate CNC lathes, interpret blueprints, and edit programs using G/M codes. The role includes multi-piece lot runs, tight tolerances on aluminum and stainless steel, and rigorous in-process inspection with precision gauges.
You will troubleshoot tooling and offsets, perform multiple weekly changeovers, and uphold a clean, safe workspace in a fully onsite facility.
This role involves setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce precision components, primarily in aluminum and stainless steel. You will interpret blueprints, perform program edits using G and M codes, and ensure parts meet exact specifications through careful measurement and inspection. The position offers steady, varied work with multiple changeovers each week and the opportunity to apply strong technical and troubleshooting skills in a clean, well-maintained environment.
Read and interpret blueprints to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
Set up CNC lathes, including cutting jaws, selecting and installing tooling, and preparing the machine for production.
Perform program edits using G and M codes to adjust speeds, feeds, and tool paths as needed.
Run CNC lathe machines to produce parts in lot sizes typically ranging from 20 to 200 pieces.
Machine primarily aluminum and stainless steel components while maintaining tight tolerances.
Perform 1st piece inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gages, and depth gages to verify part accuracy.
Monitor production runs and perform in-process checks to ensure consistent quality throughout the batch.
Troubleshoot machining and dimensional issues, making necessary adjustments to tooling, offsets, and programs.
Handle approximately 3–4 changeovers per week, ensuring efficient setup and minimal downtime.
Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow established safety and operational procedures.
Proven experience setting up and operating CNC lathes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
Hands-on experience performing G and M code edits to CNC programs.
Demonstrated skill in cutting jaws and preparing tooling for CNC lathe setups.
Proficiency in 1st piece inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gages, and depth gages.
Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving machining and dimensional issues.
Comfort working with aluminum and stainless steel materials.
Ability to manage multiple changeovers per week while maintaining productivity and quality.
Experience running production lots in the 20–200 piece range.
Familiarity with operating in a multi-axis CNC environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
Ability to work effectively on a structured 1st shift schedule with optional overtime.

The role is based in an air-conditioned facility where machines are kept in good condition, providing a comfortable and reliable work setting. The standard schedule is a 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with optional 6-hour shifts on Saturdays for additional hours. You will work primarily on CNC lathes machining aluminum and stainless steel, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, and depth gages. The environment emphasizes organized, safe, and efficient operations.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
