Job Description Summary

Miami Recreation Services coordinates the hiring of club sportcoaches. Coaches must understand that club sports are directed bythe students, therefore, coaches must acknowledge and respect theleadership positions of the officers. The coach may act only inthose areas as authorized by the club in writing.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Club Sports, this positionrequires excellent communication and teamwork skills while workingwith student-athletes, university administrators, and externalgroups. Coaches will work closely with administration, officers andteam members to assist with all operations of a competitive,traveling sports team. This may include recruitment, scheduling,competition strategy, conditioning, practice planning, reporting,and fundraising.

Job Description

Essential Duties:

• Develop the fundamental sport skills and techniques in a safeand progressive manner that is within the scope of the abilitiesand expertise of the club members.
• Provide instruction and coaching for practices andcompetitions.
• Promote fair play and good sportsmanship at all times. Thecoach must conduct himself/herself in a professional manner thatwill reflect positively upon the club and Miami University.
• Assure compliance of all applicable rules and regulations ofMiami University and of any conference, league, or association towhich the club may belong.
• Report, in writing, to the Club Sports Office or appropriateuniversity office any observed breaches of law or university policyincluding alcohol consumption or hazing activities of clubmembers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proven ability to build and nurture networks of internal andexternal relationships.
• Familiar with trends in sport and athlete developmenttechniques
• Leadership and conflict management within the the sportcommunity
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaborativelywith students

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Sport specific experience as coach or athlete at any level
• CPR & First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
• Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Three years of sport specific coaching experience at highschool or college level
• Sport-specific coaching certification or training
