Job summary

Allstate Insurance Co. is seeking a Managing Engineer for Cloud Security Engineering to lead an engineering team delivering cloud security controls as software products in production.

You will guide architecture decisions, drive delivery, and partner with product managers and platform teams to align roadmaps and priorities. The role emphasizes leadership, hands-on technical direction, and the delivery of scalable security capabilities across cloud environments, with a focus on modern delivery

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software, cloud, platform, or security engineering experience, including ownership of production systems delivering measurable reliability, performance, or security outcomes.
• 2+ years of experience leading and developing engineers through people leadership and hands-on technical guidance, including coaching, architecture reviews, design decisions, and code reviews.
• Deep experience securing cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and GCP, including cloud-native services, architectures, and security controls.
• Strong engineering proficiency with Python, Bash, Terraform, and cloud-native automation tools, with the ability to guide solution design, review code and infrastructure as code, and support the development of cloud security products.
• Ability to translate security requirements and risks into scalable engineering solutions, reusable patterns, and automated controls.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering initiatives, manage cross-team dependencies, and deliver measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an engineering team delivering cloud security controls as software products, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development.
• Set technical direction and drive high-quality execution across the design, implementation, deployment, and production support of cloud security capabilities.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture and design reviews, technical decision-making, code reviews, and support for critical implementation work.
• Own the reliability, performance, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of the team’s products in production.
• Partner with Digital Product Managers, platform teams, and engineering stakeholders to align roadmaps, priorities, dependencies, and delivery plans.
• Build a strong engineering culture centered on modern delivery practices (test-driven development, pair programming), fast feedback, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Translate complex cloud security needs into scalable engineering solutions, reusable patterns, and automated capabilities.
• Lead effective agile execution while keeping the team focused on delivery outcomes rather than process or ceremony.
