Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking an Assistant Director for Clinical Trials to lead the Clinical Research Core’s operations and financial governance. This role drives study start-up, budget development, contract negotiations, and compliance across multiple departments within the SOM.

The incumbent mentors staff, oversees regulatory submissions, and reports to the Associate Director for Clinical Trials, coordinating with external sponsors and SUNY affiliates to advance sponsored trials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years in clinical research, with 2 years in sponsored trials.
• Administrative and managerial experience with research projects and external sponsors.
• Supervisory experience supervising research coordinators.
• Experience with research protocols and budget negotiation with sponsors.

Responsibilities

• Directs day-to-day operations of the Clinical Research Core.
• Develops, manages, and evaluates administrative and financial policies and procedures.
• Provides training and mentoring to research staff.
• Facilitates study start-up including budget development and contract negotiation.
• Manages financial aspects of industry-funded trials across SOM.
• Reports directly to the Associate Director for Clinical Trials.
