Job summary

Miami Valley Hospital's Pharmacy Department seeks a pharmacist to compound and dispense medications, provide pharmaceutical care, and assist in codes under Pharmacy Leadership. You will supervise interns and technicians and participate in training and research activities.

Requirements include a BS Pharm from an accredited college (PharmD preferred), Ohio license or eligibility within 60 days, BLS/ACLS within 90 days, and hospital internship or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

  • Current Ohio pharmacist license or eligibility within 60 days.
  • BS Pharmacy from accredited college required; PharmD preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS within 90 days of start date.
  • Hospital internship or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and patient counseling skills.

Responsibilities

  • Compounds and dispenses medications per provider orders.
  • Provides pharmaceutical care and dose monitoring as referred by provider.
  • Supervises interns and technicians; participates in training of staff.
  • Participates in codes and clinical research protocols.
  • Maintains aseptic technique and pharmacy equipment operation.

General Summary/Responsibilities:Status: Full-time: *40 Hours per week (80 hours per pay period)Department: PharmacyFacility: Miami Valley HospitalUnder the supervision of Pharmacy Leadership and according to standard procedures; compounds and dispenses medications and provides pharmaceutical care upon receiving provider orders; performs all duties necessary to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs; responsible for medication dosing and monitoring by provider referral; active participant in codes; supervises interns and technicians in all work areas assigned; participates in training pharmacy students and technicians; participates in clinical research protocols and drug therapy research activities.QualificationsEducationMinimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor's degreeAdditional requirements:Type of degree: B.S.Pharm from an accredited college of pharmacy is requiredArea of study or major: PharmacyPreferred educational qualifications: PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacyPosition specific testing requirement: N/ALicensure/Certification/Registration- Current licensure as a registered pharmacist by the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, or eligibility to become licensed within 60 days of employment start date within 60 days of employment start date. - Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 90 days of employment start dateExperienceMinimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experiencePrior job title or occupational experience: N/APrior specific functional responsibilities: N/lAPreferred experience: Greater than or equal to a six month hospital pharmacy internship or hospital experience as a pharmacist.Other experience requirements: Exclusive retail experience – greater than 5 years discouraged; greater than 10 years disqualifies candidateKnowledge/SkillsPossess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skillsAbility to read and write printed material in EnglishAbility to effectively perform patient interviews and medication counselingAbility to work well with other health care workers and perform as a teamProficient with aseptic technique when utilizing both horizontal and vertical flow hoodsMust be customer-service orientedProficiency with computer keyboard operationsProficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferredAbility to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy softwareFlexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
