Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory is seeking a qualified Research Assistant. The lab is part of the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, focusing on understanding brain abnormalities and their role in psychiatric disorders using advanced neuroimaging techniques. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Please note, the functions below are representative of major duties typically associated with this position. Specific responsibilities may vary based on departmental needs. Not all duties outlined will be assigned to each individual.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Collaborate with researchers, physicians, computer scientists, psychologists, neuroscientists, and Principal Investigators on studies investigating brain abnormalities in schizophrenia, clinical high risk for psychosis, traumatic brain injury, and other populations.
  2. Assist in managing research studies by entering data, supporting data analysis, and participating in clinical procedures such as MRI scans.
  3. Learn to use image processing tools for pre-processing and analyzing structural, functional, and diffusion MRI data.
  4. Utilize statistical software such as Python and R to manage participant data and perform basic statistical tests.
  5. Troubleshoot and modify image processing pipelines as needed.
  6. Collect, describe, and analyze research materials.
  7. Assist in preparing and proofreading scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
  8. Follow established policies and procedures, demonstrating professionalism and contributing to the lab and hospital's goals.
  9. Perform other research duties as required.
  10. QA/QC incoming data for multisite international studies and clinical trials.

EDUCATION:

  • Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work well within a research team.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Applicants from psychology, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, and pre-med backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Prior research or clinical experience is recommended.
  • Experience with Linux/UNIX, Python/Bash scripting, and scientific computing software (Python, R, MATLAB) is preferred but not required.
